claude-code-router vs ShareQuota
One is a router for exactly one tool; the other is a router for the plans you own, that happens to serve that tool too. The overlap is real, and so is the difference.
claude-code-router is a free, MIT-licensed Node.js tool that intercepts Claude Code’s requests and forwards them to any OpenAI-compatible provider — OpenRouter, DeepSeek, Ollama, Gemini and others — with per-task routing rules for background work, long context and reasoning, configured through a JSON file and a web UI. ShareQuota is a free, MIT-licensed Go binary that pools five providers behind one local endpoint, signs in to subscription plans with OAuth rather than taking API keys only, serves four client dialects instead of one, and switches Claude Code, Codex and Gemini CLI over with a backup taken first. If Claude Code is the only tool and API keys are the only credentials, claude-code-router is the smaller answer.
Side by side
Eleven facts, read from each project’s own repository and site on 2026-09-13. Where a row favours the other tool, the row says so.
| Fact | ShareQuota | claude-code-router |
|---|---|---|
| GitHub stars | — | 37,200+ |
| Written in | Go | TypeScript |
| Licence | MIT | MIT |
| What you run | One static binary | Node.js |
| Providers reached | 5 | Any OpenAI-compatible API |
| Signs in to a subscription plan | Yes | No |
| Client dialects served | Anthropic, OpenAI, Responses, Gemini | Anthropic |
| Coding tools named as supported | Claude Code, Codex, Gemini CLI, Cursor, Cline, Copilot | Claude Code |
| Built as a shared team gateway | No | No |
| Token compression built in | No | No |
| Runs on your machine, no service between | Yes | Yes |
Star counts are rounded down to the hundred. ShareQuota’s repository is public but new, and its count is not yet a fact worth printing.
Which one, for what
Pick claude-code-router when
- Claude Code is the only client you care about, and you want rules per task type.
- Your providers are API keys or a local Ollama, and a subscription login is not in the picture.
- You are already running Node.js and want an npm install rather than a binary.
Pick ShareQuota when
- You want the Claude Pro or ChatGPT Plus plan you pay for to answer Claude Code — not credits bought twice.
- Codex, Gemini CLI, Cursor, Cline or Copilot need the same endpoint as Claude Code.
- A single static binary, a loopback-only management API and a SQLite file is the shape you trust.
Questions about the pair
Partly. Both put a local endpoint in front of Claude Code and decide where each request goes. claude-code-router goes deeper on Claude Code — routing by task type — and ShareQuota goes wider: more tools, more dialects, and the subscription sign-in that keys-only routers cannot do.
No. The model field alone decides where a request goes, and failover moves it to another connection that can serve the same model. There is no rule that sends background work to a cheaper model; if that is the feature you want, claude-code-router has it and this does not.
Yes — ShareQuota exposes an OpenAI-compatible endpoint on localhost, so it can be one of claude-code-router’s providers. That gives claude-code-router’s task rules a subscription-backed target, at the cost of two processes instead of one.
